Miles tells you about John
Project type
show
For Claire Michael, John Coltrane is not only a genius, her mentor; he's the one who has accompanied her since the day she first heard him.
Through the show "Miles Speaks of John," she continues to pay tribute to him.
And who better to talk about John than the great Miles Davis, who saw him take flight within his own band in the 1960s.
This show, a mix of anecdotes and great moments in jazz history, is punctuated by musical passages in which Claire and her colleagues perform John's greatest standards and some of Miles' marvels.
A few audio and visual archives recreate the era and its flavor.
Claire offers a simple and direct show, full of emotion and respect for these two great musicians who built a part of the history of great 20th-century music. The understated, unadorned staging allows Claire to communicate directly with her mentor, almost in the present tense.
It is inspired by the biography of Miles/Quincy Troup.
The deeply involved actor Patrick Lambert worked at the legendary River Bop club in the late 1970s. He encountered Elvin Jones and a large number of musicians, some of whom had rubbed shoulders with John Coltrane and Miles Davis.
Welcome to John's world!
